Tattoo Me - Prue 05/29/2009
Actually, I don't have any tattoos. I can't even commit to what I want to eat for breakfast this morning, so choosing something to ink into my skin is defnitely too big a decision for me. (Not to mention my super-wussy fear of needles, which is also a major deterrent.) I do find it interesting, however, that so many people can pick an image or quote or something and say to the world, "This. This is me. So much so that I'm going to permanently etch it into my body." I kind of envy that. (Also, I envy not being afraid of needles. And money. I definitely envy money. And good looks. But we've travelled completely off the tattoo subject at this point.) Anyway, my awe is increased when you consider these (courtesy of this guy, link thanks to AnneArchy) unicorn tattoos: New for Friday - Prue 05/29/2009
Hello. Today, in addition to the Daily Fluff, we have a new Fluff Five on terrible (yet popular) baby names. And if you're catching up on the week, don't forget about the latest Second Opinion and additions to our Guide to Movie Cliches. Enjoy! Cutesy Overload - Prue 05/28/2009
With today's Daily Fluff focusing on Sesame Street, it seems like a light kiddie theme is appropriate for the blog today. So it is with a great big scoop of "Hmmmm," that I present the world's first Hello Kitty-themed hospital. (In Taiwan, of course. Thanks to K for the link.): Confession time: I actually really like Hello Kitty stuff. I can't help it--it may be genetic. I may or may not own various Hello Kitty accessories. But I don't think that there's any commercially available product that I like enough to choose to be surrounded by it while in labor. Seeing it in a maternity ward just seems like a cruel reminder that you're about to push something with a giant head out of a comparatively small opening. So no, not soothing at all. Although, of course, the truly geeky will probably have all manner of techinical corrections and clarifications to make. ("Hey now, Imperial walkers were only deployed in scouting situations," and so on. If I knew any Star Trek trivia, I'd add that, but my only knowledge of that show is that reversing the polarity apparently solves every possible technical problem. New for Wednesday - Prue 05/27/2009
Good morning. Today, in addition to the Daily Fluff, we have a new Second Opinion for those wrestling with the problem of super-hairy girlfriends. (Boy, I hope that doesn't apply to a lot of people.) And if you're catching up, don't forget to check out the latest update to our Screenwriter's Guide to Formulaic Magic. New for Tuesday - Prue 05/26/2009
Good morning! Alas, because of the rather dull and prosaic need to pay bills and keep the electricity on, this is going to be a thin week for blog entries. But we'll do our best. In the meantime, do check out the newest Daily Fluff and the update to our Lazy Screenwriter's Guide to Formulaic Magic. (With summer blockbuster season upon us, it seemed like a good time to review more of our favorite movie cliches.) And if you haven't seen it yet, don't forget about Hulagan's latest Fluff Five too. Dance, Dance - Prue 05/22/2009
I have not, as of yet, committed to regularly watching and reviewing So You Think You Can Dance, even though I do enjoy it a lot. For one thing, I'm still suffering from American Idol fatigue. I'm not sure I'm ready to commit yet to another reality show, even though it doesn't have as many annoying factors. (I do think it's generally a fair competition, and I have yet to see much egregious bias on the part of the judges. And the crazy, substance-abusing chick judge is actually hard on people sometimes.) Another not inconsiderable factor is the possibility that it will conflict with the new season of Burn Notice, which starts June 4th and which I am definitely not going to be missing. So we'll see if SYTYCD starts to rate an "Issues With" column as the the season goes on, but at least for the auditions phase, I think we'll stick to the occasional blog mention. And there's always the Daily Fluff Archive too. Have a good weekend. New for Thursday - Prue 05/21/2009
