Currently, I'm in a heated discussion with a good friend over the levels of celebrity smugness.  This is important because if you're going to create a Celebrity Smug meter, you need to have some kind of agreed-on standard for maximum smugness.

My friend has put forth the position that Richard Gere should be the maxium smugness level, as nothing is as smug as divorcing Cindy Crawford and blathering on about the Dalai Lama.  And while I grant that Gere is immensely unlikeable, I feel that this actually decreases his smugness rating, as waning star = waning smug rating.  I think that Alec Baldwin or George Clooney are much better candidates for maximum smugness, though I admit that Baldwin's SNL appearance with Sarah Palin was funny and lowered his smugness quotient.

Which leaves the question of who is the smuggest celebrity.  Suggestions?
